How To Effetively Take Control Of Attention Deficit Disorder

When I first found out that my daughter had attention deficit disorder, I was devastated. Attention deficit disorder does not necessarily mean that your child is an imbecile. It’s simply a condition that slows them down in learning because they have a short span of attention while learning.

Regrettably, the doctor who diagnosed the condition in my daughter didn’t do a good job at explaining things to me. That’s why I almost fell apart in his office. But after I bought and read books about the condition, I realized that it could be beaten with the right mental attitude.

If you have this condition or someone close to you does, you’ll probably be no stranger to the bouts of depression and anger that normally accompanies it. Here are some ways to tame that beast, so to speak:

• Good diet: Scientific research has shown that a diet rich in omega 3 acids can go along way in curbing attention deficit disorder. A good diet can help you fight this condition and win it. Find out from a nutritionist what kinds of meals will help to control attention deficit disorder and prepare such meals religiously.

• Exercise and rest: Staying fit and resting your body when the need arises can enable you be in a better frame of mind to handle ADD.

• Count your blessing: Sometimes, focusing on your problems can make life unbearable for you. If you truly desire to conquer ADD, then, you should make a deliberate decision to count your blessings. Dwell on all the things that you are grateful for.

• Avoid absolutes: Don’t use the words ‘never’ or ‘always’. There are absolutes that the brain recognized and interprets as true even when they are not. The use of such words can have you believing that a person close to you never did anything good for you and can have you spiraling into depression.

• Steer clear of negative thoughts: It’s very easy for someone suffering from ADD to debase themselves. If you constantly indulge in negative thoughts, you will be unable to fight ADD. Pessimism never did anyone any good.

• Reach out: Curling into your shell and living inside your head is definitely not the way to go when you have attention deficit disorder. You will only end up feeding your personal demons and making your condition worse than it should be.

The right frame of mind can help you live with ADD successfully. Above all, be optimistic about life.
